The Journal of International Migration and Integration has accepted my article ‘Between national models and multi-level decoupling: The pursuit of multi-level governance in UK and Dutch policies towards migrant incorporation’ for publication. The article is based on my VENI research project on Agenda Dynamics and the Multi-Level Governance of Migrant Integration.
The article shows how the Netherlands and the UK struggle with the establishment of vertical ‘multi-level’ relations between national and local governments in the governance of migrant integration. On the one hand, national models fail to capture the increasingly local dynamics of integration governance. On the other hand, the growing prominence of the local level seems to contribute to a ‘decoupling’ of national and local policies, which can lead to discrepancies but also contradictions and conflicts between policies at these levels.
The article will be published in Open Access.
