Together with Rianne Dekker, I’ll be doing a new project in 2015 on ‘Media attention, framing and immigrant policies.’ The project is financed by the Research and Documentation Centre of the Netherlands Ministry of Security and Justice. The project elaborates on a number of projects on policy framing and media analysis that we have conducted in recent years.
It seeks to develop a better understanding of how and why some cases or incidents capture significant attention whereas others receive relatively little attention, what processes of framing can be distinguished, what the role of various actors has been in this framing, and how and why this may lead to policy change or not. In total, 16 case-studies will be made. This includes, per case, a mapping of media attention, a qualitative and quantitative frame analysis, and a policy analysis focusing on key actors per case and on the policy consequences of media attention.
